House Judiciary Committee Chair Jim Jordan (R-OH) has announced that a markup hearing is scheduled for May 16 to address Attorney General Merrick Garland’s refusal to provide audio recordings of President Joe Biden’s interview with Special Counsel Robert Hur. Garland defied a final warning on April 26 to comply with a subpoena for the audio recordings. If Garland continues to defy the subpoena, he will face contempt of Congress proceedings as warned by House Oversight Committee Chair James Comer (R-KY) and Jordan on April 17.

The markup is part of the House’s impeachment inquiry into Biden’s involvement in his family’s business. Hur’s investigation into Biden for mishandling classified documents found that he “willfully” retained classified documents but declined to prosecute Biden due to insufficient evidence. During Biden’s interview with Hur, the president experienced mental lapses and poor memory, according to a transcript obtained by Truth Voices.

Hur characterized Biden as “an elderly man with a poor memory.” A Harvard/Harris survey found that about one-third of Democrats doubt Biden’s mental fitness, while 82 percent of Americans have concerns about Biden’s physical and mental health, according to another poll.
