Apple has introduced its latest lineup of iPhones, consisting of the iPhone 16, iPhone 16 Plus, iPhone 16 Pro, and iPhone 16 Pro Max. While the updates are largely incremental, they do bring some notable improvements to the table. The standard models now feature the programmable Action button, which was previously exclusive to the Pro series, as well as slightly longer battery life and a revamped camera module with a vertical stack.
The Pro models, on the other hand, boast larger displays with narrower bezels, enhanced battery life, and several camera upgrades, including a 5x optical zoom on the smaller Pro model and a higher-resolution ultrawide camera. The standard models are powered by Apple’s new A18 chip, while the Pro models utilize the faster and more efficient A18 Pro chip.
One of the most significant hardware changes across the board is the introduction of a touch-sensitive “Camera Control” button, which provides a more DSLR-like experience when capturing photos and videos. However, it’s clear that these new iPhones don’t represent a major departure from their predecessors, the iPhone 15s.
Apple’s focus on its “Apple Intelligence” AI tools is likely to play a significant role in the sales pitch for these new devices. We’ve already published a hands-on preview of the iPhone 16 Pro, and full reviews of the entire iPhone 16 lineup will be available soon. For those considering a pre-order, we’ve compared the iPhone 16 Pro to its main competitors in the $1,000 price range, the Google Pixel 9 Pro and Samsung Galaxy S24+, in terms of specs. While raw specs only tell part of the story, this comparison provides a glimpse into what a $1,000 smartphone has to offer in 2024.
