According to recent polls, Americans have identified immigration as the most important issue facing the United States for the third consecutive month. In April, a Gallup survey revealed that 27 percent of respondents believed immigration was the top concern in the country. This follows previous polls in March and February where 28 percent of participants expressed the same sentiment.
The Gallup poll also highlighted other pressing issues in the nation. 18 percent of respondents believed the government was the biggest problem, while 17 percent cited the economy and 13 percent mentioned inflation as the most significant issues. Since President Joe Biden and Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas assumed office, there have been over 9.2 million migrant encounters nationwide, with more than 7.6 million occurring at the southern border.
Another survey conducted by Redfield & Wilton Strategies in April found that only 20 percent of voters believe the United States has control over its borders, a significant decrease from a previous poll in August 2023. Additionally, a recent poll by The Harris Poll for Axios discovered that 51 percent of Americans support the idea of mass deportations for undocumented migrants. The survey revealed that 68 percent of Republicans, 46 percent of independents, and 42 percent of Democrats were in favor of mass deportations.
