Ilya Sutskever, one of the co-founders and former chief scientists of OpenAI, has decided to depart from the company following internal conflicts and changes in leadership. According to a report by the New York Times, Sutskever, along with other board members, pushed for the removal of CEO Sam Altman in November. Despite Altman being reinstated shortly after, Sutskever did not return to work and eventually announced his departure from OpenAI.

Sutskever, a prominent figure in the field of AI research, played a crucial role in the development of neural networks during his time at the University of Toronto. He co-founded OpenAI in 2015 with Elon Musk and others to focus on AI research and development. The company has been at the forefront of technological advancements, including the creation of the popular ChatGPT chatbot.

Following Sutskever’s exit, Jakub Pachocki, a key researcher at OpenAI, has taken on the role of Chief Scientist at the company, which is now valued at over $80 billion. OpenAI recently unveiled an updated version of the ChatGPT chatbot capable of processing voice commands, images, and videos, positioning them in the competitive landscape alongside tech giants like Google and Apple.

In an interview, Altman expressed his appreciation for Sutskever’s contributions to OpenAI and the lasting impact he had on the company’s development. Sutskever, on the other hand, expressed confidence in OpenAI’s future while hinting at a new project on the horizon.
