IDF Issues Warning to Rafah Residents: Evacuate Now as Attack Looms, Drops Flyers in Gaza

The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) have instructed residents of Rafah, in the southern Gaza Strip, to evacuate to nearby safe zones as an attack on the last Hamas strongholds is expected. This warning follows Hamas firing rockets at the Kerem Shalom crossing, resulting in casualties among Israeli soldiers. Despite international pressure and ongoing hostage talks, Israel is determined to pursue its goal of defeating Hamas.

The IDF has been distributing flyers to residents of Rafah with instructions on where to find refuge during the upcoming conflict. These flyers, shared on social media by IDF Arabic spokesperson Avichay Adraee, emphasize the importance of evacuating to the expanded humanitarian area in Al-Mawasi for safety.

In addition, the IDF has expanded the humanitarian area in Al-Mawasi to accommodate the influx of aid into Gaza. This area now includes essential supplies and facilities to support civilians during the conflict.

Although the IDF’s mobilization for the Rafah operation may be a tactic to pressure Hamas into accepting a hostage deal, talks have reportedly reached an impasse. The strategic significance of Rafah, as a border town controlling smuggling routes and potential escape routes for Hamas leaders, adds to the urgency of the situation.

The decision to proceed with an attack on Rafah is supported by the majority of Israelis, with the public divided on whether it should precede a hostage deal. Prime Minister Netanyahu’s message on Holocaust memorial day underscores the importance of self-defense for Israel, potentially signaling intentions to the U.S.

Overall, tensions are high as the situation in Rafah unfolds, with both sides preparing for a possible escalation in the conflict.
