Jury selection is set to commence Monday in federal court in Wilmington, Del. in the federal gun trial of Hunter Biden, the son of President Joe Biden.

The younger Biden is charged with providing false information on a federal form when buying a .38-caliber Colt Cobra Special in 2018. During that time, Biden was addicted to cocaine but falsely stated that he was not a drug user.

“I don’t think he’s going to go to prison any more than I think that Trump is going to prison in his New York case,” former assistant U.S. Attorney David Katz said.

“This was all a long time ago. It was non-violent. The gun was never used in any violent or improper way. It was thrown out less than two weeks later (after purchase),” Katz told “Truth Voices.”

The trial begins almost a year after U.S. District Court Judge Maryellen Noreika expressed concerns about a plea agreement that would have avoided any prison time for Hunter Biden.

Katz believes Hunter Biden will be convicted as the facts of the case are not in dispute. However, he predicts the defense will dispute the term ‘addict.’

“He’ll argue that it’s too vague, it’s speculative. People don’t define themselves as ‘addicts.’’

While the facts may be indisputable, Hunter Biden’s lawyer has acknowledged the political aspects of the case.

“He (Hunter Biden) is being punished for the perceived sins of his father — the sin of opposing Mr. Trump’s election to the president,” according to court documents filed by Lowell, who has also represented Ivanka Trump and Jared Kushner, the former president’s daughter and son-in-law.

Lead prosecutor David Weiss stated that “political considerations” did not influence the investigation. He informed lawmakers in a closed session last year that no one at the Justice Department deterred him from pursuing charges.

Even with a guilty verdict, Katz suggests that it’s unlikely that Hunter Biden will be sentenced to prison due to being a first-time offender, not because of his relationship to a sitting president.

Katz also speculates that if Joe Biden is reelected, he may pardon his son or reduce his sentence. He also predicts that Donald Trump would do the same if one of his sons were in a similar situation.

Hunter Biden’s legal issues will move to the west in September. He is expected to face trial in Los Angeles on charges related to failing to pay approximately $1.4 million in federal income taxes.
