During Peace Officers Memorial Day, Republican House members pledged their support for law enforcement, with Rep. Elise Stefanik stating that they will proudly back the blue. Rep. Mike Johnson also lauded officers as the best of us and exemplifying the American spirit.

Lawmakers emphasized the crucial role of law enforcement in society, particularly in light of some calls for reallocating resources away from police departments. Sheriff Chad Bianco criticized the idea that officers are seen as villains, highlighting the importance of upholding the rule of law in a civilized society.

Several GOP congressmen who have backgrounds in law enforcement, such as Clay Higgins, Pete Stauber, and Mike Ezell, have introduced legislation to aid police officers. The proposed bills aim to address anti-police attacks, expand concealed carry rights for officers, protect them on duty, and deport illegal immigrants who harm law enforcement. Additionally, there is a focus on supporting the mental health of those in law enforcement.

House Majority Leader Steve Scalise, reflecting on a past shooting incident, credited officers with saving his life and emphasized the need for bipartisan support for the legislation. He expressed hope that lawmakers on both sides of the aisle would remember the brave actions of law enforcement officers, regardless of political affiliations.
