House Republicans are preparing to vote on a resolution condemning President Joe Biden for his threats to withhold weapons shipments to Israel, criticizing his handling of the U.S. response to the war in Gaza and accusing him of abandoning a key ally.

The resolution, set to be voted on this week, calls out Biden’s “dangerous hold” on weapons to Israel and proposes withholding funds from the secretaries of State and Defense as well as the National Security Council until the materials are delivered. Republicans in both the House and Senate have criticized Biden for his response to the war, accusing him of shifting his support for Israel to appease the far Left.

House Majority Leader Steve Scalise stated that it is not Biden’s role to dictate to Israel how they should defend their right to exist and protect their people, emphasizing the support of House Republicans for Israel in its fight against terrorism and threats to its freedom.

The resolution was prompted by Biden’s recent comments threatening to stop providing weapons to Israel if it invaded the city of Rafah. This threat led to immediate backlash from Republicans, with House Speaker Mike Johnson expressing his hope that it was just a “senior moment” from the president.

While Biden administration officials defended the comments, Republican leaders highlighted the aid package passed by Congress to support Israel, which Biden had previously endorsed. The resolution aims to hold the president accountable for what Republicans view as dangerous tactics that endanger Israel’s safety.

Biden has faced criticism from some within his own party over his handling of the Gaza conflict, with Democratic voters in blue states expressing their discontent with his approach. This growing dissent could pose challenges for Biden as he gears up to face Trump in the upcoming election.
