Harris, Trump Trade Barbs Over Arlington National Cemetery Controversy

Vice President Kamala Harris has lashed out at former President Donald Trump, accusing him of disrespecting the sacred grounds of Arlington National Cemetery during a recent wreath-laying ceremony. Harris took to X to express her outrage, labeling Trump’s actions as a “political stunt” and claiming that he had disrespected the solemn atmosphere of the ceremony.

The controversy arose when a member of Trump’s team got into an altercation with a cemetery staff member who had stopped them from taking photos in section 60, where 13 American soldiers who died in Afghanistan during the Biden Administration’s withdrawal are honored. Harris was quick to condemn Trump’s behavior, saying that it was just the latest example of his disrespect for the military and its families.

Harris recalled Trump’s past comments, in which he had referred to fallen service members as “suckers” and “losers” and disparaged Medal of Honor recipients. She emphasized that honoring veterans and military families was a sacred duty that should be treated with the utmost respect and gratitude.

However, Trump’s campaign team pushed back against Harris’s criticism, saying that a private photographer had been permitted to attend the ceremony and that an unnamed individual had physically blocked members of Trump’s team during the event.

GOP vice presidential candidate Sen. JD Vance (R-OH) also weighed in on the controversy, criticizing Harris for her response to the situation. Vance accused Harris of being “asleep at the wheel” and failing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the deaths of the 13 American soldiers in Afghanistan. He also took aim at Harris’s criticism of Trump, saying that she was more concerned with attacking the former president than with honoring the fallen soldiers.
