The highly anticipated announcement of Vice President Kamala Harris’ running mate is expected to be made on Tuesday, according to a report from Politico. Harris has been conducting a thorough search for a suitable partner to join her on the ticket against former President Donald Trump.

In recent days, Harris has held in-person interviews with several prominent Democrats, including Arizona Sen. Mark Kelly, Pennsylvania Gov. Josh Shapiro, and Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz, at her residence in Washington. It is also possible that Harris has spoken virtually with other potential candidates, or may do so on Monday, according to a source familiar with the selection process.

Other individuals who have been vetted by the Harris campaign team include Kentucky Gov. Andy Beshear, Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg, and Illinois Gov. JB Pritzker. However, some notable Democrats have already taken themselves out of the running, including Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer and North Carolina Gov. Roy Cooper.

Cooper’s decision to withdraw from consideration was reportedly due to concerns about the potential consequences of leaving his post as governor. In North Carolina, the lieutenant governor would assume the governor’s role if Cooper were to step down, which Cooper described as an “archaic constitutional provision” that doesn’t make sense.

Meanwhile, speculation about Harris’ running mate has been building, with some signs pointing to Shapiro as the likely choice. Last week, Philadelphia Mayor Cherelle Parker posted and then quickly deleted a video that appeared to announce Shapiro as Harris’ running mate.
