Hamburg Rally for Radical Islamists Demanding Caliphate in Germany

More than a thousand Muslims in Hamburg gathered to protest against freedom of the press and liberal values, advocating for an Islamic caliphate. The rally took place in St. Georg, a progressive area known for its LGBTQ+ community, where participants expressed frustration with media portrayal of Muslims. Chants of “Allahu Akbar” and signs advocating for a caliphate were notable at the event. Muslim Interactive, a group linked to Hizb ut-Tahrir, also attended the rally. Despite efforts by local officials to crackdown on radical Islamist groups, young Muslims in Germany still show support for an Islamic theocracy. A recent survey found that nearly half of young Muslims believe an Islamic theocracy is the best form of government. This is a concerning trend that officials are actively addressing to prevent further radicalization.
