The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) has released a drone video showing the final moments of Yahya Sinwar, the Hamas terrorist leader who orchestrated the October 7 atrocities. The footage, captured on Thursday, reveals Sinwar’s desperate attempt to escape Israeli ground forces in the Gaza city of Rafah.
In the video, the drone enters the building where Sinwar is hiding through an upstairs window and finds him seated in an armchair, surrounded by debris and badly injured. One of his hands is missing, and he is seen weakly looking up at the drone before attempting to hoist a makeshift weapon in defiance.
As the drone approaches, Sinwar throws the makeshift weapon, described as a wooden stick, at the aircraft, but misses. Israeli ground forces had been tracking Sinwar and his entourage, who were attempting to flee Rafah across the border into Egypt, and had surrounded the building.
According to military correspondent Doron Kadosh, Israeli troops had observed suspicious activity in the area, including several Hamas operatives darting from house to house, which suggested they were clearing the way for Sinwar and his comrades to escape.
The Israelis engaged the terrorists, and Sinwar and his bodyguards fled to the second floor of the building. An Israeli tank fired a shell into the building, causing significant damage and injuring Sinwar. He and his bodyguards attempted to exit the building, but were driven back by an IDF platoon that threw two grenades.
The drone video ends just before the Israelis fired another tank shell into the building, killing Sinwar. His body was discovered the following morning, along with several other Hamas corpses, and was later identified through DNA analysis.
The footage provides a graphic and disturbing account of Sinwar’s final moments, and serves as a testament to the bravery and determination of the Israeli forces who tracked him down and brought him to justice.
