Climate activist Greta Thunberg was detained in her native Sweden for participating in a demonstration outside the Eurovision finale, where Israeli singer Eden Golan was set to perform. The protest, which took place in Malmö Arena during the 68th edition of Eurovision, was part of a series of demonstrations against Israel’s participation in the contest.
Thunberg, who has been arrested multiple times for her activism, spoke out against Israel’s alleged genocide and called for a boycott of the country’s involvement in the competition. Despite her efforts, the European Broadcasting Union, which oversees Eurovision, supported Golan and Israeli broadcaster Kan’s participation in the event.
This latest arrest adds to Thunberg’s history of environmental advocacy, which has taken her across Europe to raise awareness about climate change. From protesting Dutch tax breaks for fossil fuel companies to demonstrating outside the Swedish Parliament building, Thunberg remains committed to using her voice to speak out against environmental injustices.
