Governor Hochul Criticizes Trump’s Supreme Court Legacy on Women’s Rights Ahead of Biden Debate

New York Governor Kathy Hochul claimed on Sunday morning that former President Donald Trump “stacked” the U.S. Supreme Court with justices “hostile to women’s rights”. During an appearance on CNN’s State of the Union, Hochul supported President Joe Biden ahead of their upcoming presidential debate and spoke extensively about the impact of the Supreme Court’s overturning of Roe v. Wade.

Hochul criticized Trump, stating that his only response regarding abortion is that he took away women’s right to choose, emphasizing that he “can’t go anywhere else”. She also argued that the issue of abortion is a major difference between the two presidential candidates, saying, “That is his talking point. He can’t go anywhere else… I stacked the Supreme Court with people I knew were hostile to women’s rights.”

Hochul went on to suggest that Biden should address the issue of abortion in the debate, stating that he doesn’t have to say much because “everybody knows who stole that right from American women”. She implied that the issue of abortion could be a key factor in polls that show 60% of women are dissatisfied with both presidential candidates.

Hochul also pointed out that one-third of women in the United States live in a state with bans on abortion, emphasizing that this is a direct result of Trump’s promise to overturn Roe v. Wade. She stated that women are being forced to drive hundreds of miles for an abortion, and are even being denied healthcare in emergency situations.

In an attempt to boost Biden’s candidacy, Hochul predicted that he would “bring electricity” to the debate stage, despite her own popularity in New York State having plummeted to a low of 38%.
