House committees have referred Hunter Biden and James Biden to the Justice Department for potential criminal charges, alleging “false statements to Congress” regarding key elements of President Joe Biden’s impeachment inquiry, according to sources on Wednesday.
Hunter is accused of falsely claiming he was not the corporate secretary for Rosemont Seneca Bohai (RSB). However, documents from the Ways and Means Committee show a corporate resolution signed by Hunter as the “acting Secretary” of Rosemont Seneca Bohai, LLC.
Additionally, Hunter is alleged to have lied about his communications regarding leveraging his father’s influence to gain financial benefits from CEFC China Energy Co.
The Oversight Committee clarified in May:
Hunter also claimed that the Zhao he was messaging on WhatsApp is not the same Zhao associated with CEFC. (These were the messages where Hunter stated Joe Biden was sitting next to him.) According to phone records released today, Hunter communicated with only one “Zhao” – Raymond Zhao – in the context we inquired about. Not only did the same Zhao respond, but the message thread shows he understood exactly what Hunter Biden was referencing. Hunter continued to message the “Zhao” phone number for months on matters related to CEFC.
James Biden, the president’s younger brother, asserted that Joe Biden “never had any involvement or any direct or indirect financial interest” in the family business.
“The committee was so stunned by his perjury that they questioned him multiple times,” Bobulinski stated. “Each time he denied meeting with me and Joe Biden, despite the committee presenting text messages that confirmed it.”
In May, Chairman Smith criticized the Bidens for their statements: “Lying under sworn testimony is a felony offense that the Department of Justice has prosecuted numerous individuals for in recent years, and the American public expects the same standard of accountability for the President’s son.”
