A tanker truck carrying 8,500 gallons of gasoline collided with a tractor-trailer on Interstate 95 in Connecticut, causing a massive fire and closing both sides of the highway. The crash occurred near Exit 15 and the Fairfield Avenue overpass early Thursday morning. Emergency crews, including local fire departments and state agencies, responded to the scene. Fortunately, there were no serious injuries reported by Connecticut State Police.

The tanker lost about half of its gasoline in the fire, and efforts were made to drain the remaining fuel before moving the vehicle. Officials confirmed that no runoff reached the nearby Norwalk River, and air quality was deemed safe by the Department of Energy and Environmental Protection.

Governor Ned Lamont advised the public to avoid the area near Exit 15, as both northbound and southbound lanes would remain closed for an extended period. A news briefing was scheduled for the evening to provide updates on the situation. Department of Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg also expressed support for the response efforts and urged drivers to follow detours.

Senator Chris Murphy highlighted the potential closure of I-95 for days pending a structural assessment of the bridge and a thorough investigation of the fuel leakage. The authorities are working diligently to address the aftermath of the incident and ensure the safety of the affected area.
