A United States diplomat has resigned over President Joe Biden’s handling of the conflict between Israel and Hamas, stating that she believes the U.S. is on the “wrong side of history.” Hala Rharrit, who had worked at the State Department for 18 years, initially had no plans to resign but felt compelled to do so. Prior to her resignation, Rharrit served as an Arabic language spokesperson for the State Department. The conflict escalated when Hamas launched a deadly attack on Israel, resulting in a devastating response from Israel. As the war continued, the people in northern Gaza faced famine conditions. Despite Biden’s claim of unwavering support for Israel, Rharrit and others who have left their positions at the State Department believe the U.S. is making a mistake by supporting Israel in this conflict. Rharrit’s resignation followed others who had left their roles in protest against U.S. support for Israel.
