A 68-year-old man from Florida, Michael M. Wiseman, was taken into custody without incident on Friday for making threats against former President Donald Trump and Sen. JD Vance (R-OH) on social media. The Jupiter Police Department launched an investigation, coordinating with the United States Secret Service and the Palm Beach County State Attorney’s Office, after finding multiple written threats against the individuals and their families, including bodily harm.

The threat comes just weeks after a failed assassination attempt against Trump at one of his Pennsylvania rallies, where Trump was grazed by a bullet. Wiseman allegedly made the threats on his Facebook account, sparking a reaction from the authorities. Trump and Vance are set to campaign together for the first time on Saturday in Michigan, a crucial swing state that played a significant role in Trump’s victory in 2016 and went to President Joe Biden in 2020.

In a surprising turn, current polls suggest Trump is regaining popularity in Michigan, with a Fox News survey this year placing him two percentage points ahead of Biden, a margin within the three percent margin of error. The latest polls follow rumors that Biden is struggling to stay in the running, with a potentially looming withdrawal from the race. Michigan’s 2020 vote total saw Biden with a 154,000-vote lead, making the state a hotspot for the November election.
