Federal Bureau of Investigation agents raided Oakland Mayor Sheng Thao’s property Thursday morning, sparking widespread attention in the city. According to sources, agents arrived at the 100 block of Maiden Lane in Oakland at 5:30 a.m. and began their operation.

By 10:07 a.m., several FBI agents were seen leaving the property, carrying bags and boxes, and departing the scene in their vehicles. An FBI representative confirmed to Truth Voices that the location had been cleared, but additional details were not provided.

The mayor’s property is one of four he owns in Oakland, and the raid occurred just days after a recall campaign against Thao advanced to the November ballot. An FBI agent at the scene earlier told Truth Voices that the address was under investigation, while a San Francisco FBI spokesperson confirmed that the agency was conducting “court authorized law enforcement” at the location.

The FBI also confirmed a separate law enforcement activity at a location on View Crest Court, where Andy Duong, part-owner of recycling company Cal Waste Solutions, resides. Cal Waste Solutions was previously investigated over campaign contributions to Mayor Thao and other officials, according to Oaklandside.

The mayor was set to appear at an event on Thursday morning at 10 a.m. but did not attend. Truth Voices has reached out to Mayor Thao’s office for comment on the incident but has yet to receive a response.
