Utah Republican Governor Spencer Cox is seeking reelection this year, backed by donations from prominent Democrat donors. In December, Cox received $50,000 each from David E. Cumming and John Cumming, who both contributed from the same Wyoming address linked to the Cumming Foundation. Annette Cumming, the vice president and executive director of the foundation, has ties to Planned Parenthood. John Cumming has been a significant donor to Democrats, contributing nearly $370,000 in the 2020 election cycle. This is a departure from his previous support for the Utah Democratic Party. Cox has raised less than $1.7 million for his campaign, with a notable $100,000 coming from left-wing donors.

Governor Cox has aligned himself with progressive causes, such as signing the Utah Compact on Racial Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion. He has also made controversial statements defending racially exclusive programs and vetoing a ban on males in girls’ sports. Despite criticism, Cox has shown support for the transgender community and signed a bill banning transgender medical interventions for minors, though the legislation has been criticized for its loopholes.

Cox’s political decisions have drawn attention and criticism, with Fox News host Tucker Carlson mocking him for stating his preferred pronouns and later removing them from his social media bio. Despite these controversies, Cox continues to navigate the political landscape as he seeks reelection.
