Elie Mystal: Trump’s Supporters Share His ‘Despicable’ Qualities

Justice correspondent Elie Mystal made a scathing assessment of former President Donald Trump’s supporters on “The ReidOut” on Wednesday, stating that they share the same despicable qualities as the former president.

Host Joy Reid set the tone for the conversation, highlighting Trump’s past behavior, including his comments about his building’s height in relation to the World Trade Center. Mystal concurred, attributing Trump’s ability to weather controversies to the nature of his supporters.

Mystal described Trump as a narcissist, driven by a complete lack of compassion and empathy for others. This self-centeredness, he argued, is a key factor in Trump’s propensity for dishonesty, including his past lies about 9/11.

Mystal further emphasized that Trump’s supporters share his lack of empathy and generosity, which is why his crass and classless actions have not hurt him in the past. “When Trump engages in behavior that desecrates our national symbols or prioritizes himself above all else, his supporters see it as aspirational,” Mystal explained. “They want to emulate his behavior in their own lives, and that’s why his actions rarely have consequences. For them, being crass and classless is a desirable trait, which is why Trump’s controversies often fail to stick.”
