A 35-year-old man, Jorge Miguel Peralta, a suspected illegal alien, has been arrested and charged with intoxicated manslaughter after a fatal car crash in Bastrop County, Texas. The victim, 29-year-old Grayson Christopher Davis, was driving home on October 13th when Peralta, who had been drinking, crashed into his vehicle.

According to police, Peralta had consumed five beers before getting behind the wheel of a truck and causing a multi-car crash. Davis was airlifted to a nearby hospital with severe injuries, but ultimately died three days later. Peralta attempted to flee on foot when police arrived at the scene, but was apprehended.

Grayson’s mother, Ashley Davis, said she received a devastating text message on that fateful Sunday evening, informing her that her son had been hit by a truck driven by an illegal drunk driver. “You hear all these stories, but you never think it’s going to happen to you,” Ashley said, fighting back tears. “It’s just not fair to the family, and it’s not fair to Grayson.”

Ashley believes that if federal immigration laws had been properly enforced, her son would still be alive today. “I’m begging that someone watching understands that this cannot continue,” she said. “It’s not okay.” Grayson’s obituary describes him as a person with a “magnetic personality, big heart, and ever-present smile.” He is remembered as someone who made a lasting impact in his 29 years, and his family is still reeling from his sudden loss.

Peralta is currently being held at the Bastrop County Jail, and Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents have placed a detainer on him, requesting custody if he is released from jail at any time. Grayson leaves behind a grieving family, including his girlfriend, parents, sisters, brother, and numerous friends and family members.
