The Democratic National Committee has placed a billboard along I-94 in Racine County, Wisconsin, targeting former President Donald Trump’s economic record and allegedly derogatory comments about Milwaukee. The billboard, which reads “Want to know what’s really ‘horrible’? Donald Trump for Wisconsin’s Economy,” comes after Trump reportedly described Milwaukee as “horrible” during a closed-door meeting with House Republicans.

Trump is set to hold a rally in southwest Wisconsin on Tuesday to criticize President Joe Biden’s “failed presidency.” However, the DNC is pushing back, claiming Trump has shown “contempt” for Wisconsin and its working-class families. Trump won Wisconsin in 2016 by less than a percentage point before Biden won it in 2020 by about the same margin. In 2024, Trump has an average polling edge of 0.1 over Biden, according to RealClearPolitics.

The party points to Trump’s economic record, including his support for outsourcing jobs and his handling of the Foxconn project in Racine County. The Foxconn project, which was supposed to employ 13,000 people, has been plagued by delays and challenges, and Biden has criticized Trump’s handling of the situation. Meanwhile, Trump has emphasized the strength of his pre-pandemic economy and the job growth during his administration.

The Trump campaign has dismissed reports of Trump’s alleged comments about Milwaukee, claiming he meant to criticize specific issues faced by the city, such as violent crime and voter fraud. The campaign also attacked Biden’s economic record, saying that inflation has increased prices and cost the average Wisconsin family thousands of dollars.
