Authorities in Los Angeles, California, made a grim discovery of two bodies inside a “human-dug cave” containing fentanyl. The bodies were found in a suspected homeless encampment in Northridge, prompting a hazmat team from the Los Angeles Fire Department to respond. Aerial views of the excavation showed the makeshift structure extending underground.

The hazmat-suited responders removed the bodies due to the presence of the mysterious white powder, later confirmed to contain portions of fentanyl. While the deaths are suspected to be drug-related, the official causes will be determined by the medical examiner. Fortunately, the hazmat team did not detect any hazardous readings at the scene, and the powder was safely secured and disposed of.
