World Health Organization (W.H.O.) Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus expressed deep concern over Israel’s proposed “full-scale invasion on Rafah” as he warned of a potential humanitarian disaster. He appealed to Israel to reconsider and called on all parties to prioritize a ceasefire and pursue lasting peace.

In a statement on Twitter, Tedros emphasized the urgent need for humanitarian aid in Gaza and highlighted the dire health and humanitarian situation in the region. He met with U.N. officials to discuss the pressing needs of the Palestinian refugees in Gaza.

Despite the challenges, Tedros urged for an immediate ceasefire to prevent further suffering and humanitarian crises. However, he did not address Hamas’s role in the ongoing conflict.

The situation escalated as Israel considered military action in Rafah, which could further complicate the humanitarian crisis and lead to significant civilian casualties. International pressure mounted on Israel to seek alternative solutions to address the conflict without resorting to a full-scale invasion.

While efforts were made to negotiate a peaceful resolution, the lack of compromise from Hamas hindered progress towards a ceasefire. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu indicated that an invasion of Rafah was unavoidable to achieve the war’s objectives, including the safe return of hostages held by Hamas.

As tensions rose, the international community called for responsible and strategic approaches to ensure civilians’ safety and prevent a further deterioration of the situation. The focus remained on finding ways to address the root causes of the conflict and promote a sustainable peace process.
