Democrats Should Opt for Another Zoom Convention Instead of Holding One in Chicago

The Democratic Party is being urged to reconsider hosting its national convention in Chicago in August and opt for a virtual meeting through Zoom instead. This suggestion is made not only for the benefit of the city of Chicago but also for the country as a whole.

There are concerns about holding a political event in a city that has faced criticism for Democratic mismanagement in various aspects such as crime, failing schools, and the migrant crisis. President Joe Biden’s decision to choose Chicago in a deeply blue state that is already in his favor for the upcoming election is being questioned. Moving the convention online presents an opportunity to rectify this choice.

The potential for chaos and conflict reminiscent of 1968, when anti-war protests turned violent in Grant Park, is a real concern. The presence of anti-Israel groups, known for disruptive and aggressive behavior, adds to the apprehension. Despite Biden’s criticism of Israel, these activists have distorted the truth and intend to push their agenda forcefully.

The anticipated clashes with law enforcement indicate a volatile situation, exacerbated by recent incidents of violence at other locations. The history of Chicago, from its moments of glory in sports and entertainment, now seems overshadowed by the challenges faced in recent years under the leadership of figures like Rahm Emanuel and Lori Lightfoot.

Holding a virtual convention, as done in 2020, seems like a safer and more practical approach. By showcasing the city’s history and diversity through a video and conducting the rest of the convention virtually, the risk of violence and unrest can be mitigated. This decision is seen as both politically strategic and morally responsible to avoid potential harm to the city and attendees.

The suggestion to move the convention online is supported as a way to protect Chicago from violence and turmoil, as well as to ensure a safe and productive gathering for the Democratic Party.
