A Washington, DC, Council member, Trayon White Sr., was taken into custody by the FBI on Sunday, with the specific charges against him yet to be disclosed.

Confirmation of the arrest came from the council’s chairman and two additional sources, who spoke to the Washington Post on Sunday.

Council Chairman Mendelson expressed his eagerness to learn more about the situation, stating in an interview with FOX 5, “I’m looking forward to getting more details to understand what’s going on. At this point, you know as much as I do.”

Earlier this year, in March, it was revealed that White was facing significant campaign-related fines, totaling over $80,000.

According to a report by FOX 5 in March, the D.C. Office of Campaign Finance had imposed a $20,000 fine on White and his campaign treasurer, as reported by the Washington City Paper. Additionally, White was found to owe nearly $59,000 in public funds received through the Fair Elections Program.

The Fair Elections Program, a relatively new initiative, provides public financing to eligible candidates, but also subjects them to rigorous audits and reporting requirements.
