Criticism mounts as Biden reverses decision on sending weapons to Israel

A group of bipartisan lawmakers criticized President Joe Biden for his recent decisions regarding Israel.

During an interview with CNN, Biden stated that he would cease sending offensive weapons to Israel if they proceeded with their plans to invade Rafah in the Gaza Strip. This decision drew backlash from both allies and critics.

Senator John Fetterman expressed his strong disagreement and disappointment, while Senator Ted Cruz accused the Biden administration of being anti-Israel for halting a munitions shipment.

Former Vice President Mike Pence likened the situation to the impeachment of former President Donald Trump over withholding aid to Ukraine.

Representative Ritchie Torres criticized the mixed messaging on aid to Israel, questioning America’s credibility as an ally.

However, Representatives Ilhan Omar and Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez praised Biden’s decision, seeing it as a positive shift.

Despite the controversy, the decision to withhold further weapon shipments from the US is unlikely to impact Israel’s ability to combat Hamas, as they already possess enough offensive munitions.
