Colorado Governor Jared Polis spoke on CNN’s The Source about Vice President Kamala Harris, a 2024 Democratic presidential candidate. Polis, who serves as a Harris campaign surrogate, stated that Harris is a fundamentally different leader from President Joe Biden. However, when asked about Harris’ response to a question about whether she would have done things differently as president, Polis downplayed the importance of the answer, citing the pressure of thinking on the spot.

Host Kaitlan Collins asked Polis about Harris’ initial response to the question, which was that she couldn’t think of anything she would have done differently. Polis responded by emphasizing the distinct qualities of Harris’ leadership style, highlighting her focus on the “opportunity economy” and small businesses. He contrasted this approach with Biden’s emphasis on infrastructure and manufacturing, saying that while Biden has a “fine” record as president, Harris represents a more forward-thinking vision for the country.

Collins pressed Polis on whether Harris should have answered the question differently, given her experience as a governor dealing with immigration issues. Polis acknowledged that Harris may have been caught off guard by the question, but maintained that her response was not a significant issue. He emphasized that Harris’ background as a prosecutor and her experience tackling complex issues would serve her well as president, particularly in addressing border security and making the country safer.

Polis also praised Biden for his role in transitioning power to a future-oriented leader, which he believes Harris embodies. He noted that Harris’ approach to governance would be distinct from Biden’s, citing her commitment to addressing the border security issue and her experience in putting criminals behind bars. Polis expressed enthusiasm for Harris’ candidacy, saying that she represents the kind of leadership the country needs to move forward. In his view, Harris’ leadership style and policy priorities would be a welcome change from Biden’s approach, which he characterized as having a “mixed record” as president.
