CNN’s John King reported on Monday that top Democrats are still pushing President Joe Biden to withdraw from the presidential race, despite the public’s growing support for the president.
According to King, the efforts to persuade Biden to step aside are ongoing, although they have become more discreet since the attempted assassination of former President Donald Trump. Democrats believe it’s essential to present a unified front during the Republican National Convention, which they see as an opportunity to contrast their party’s message with the GOP’s.
King noted that Biden has reaffirmed his commitment to staying in the race, which has led Democrats to believe that publicly criticizing him would be counterproductive. However, King’s sources indicate that Democratic members of Congress continue to lobby the White House and Biden’s inner circle, urging him to reconsider his decision.
These lawmakers are reportedly making the case that the party is at a point of no return, and that Biden’s potential loss will have devastating consequences for the Democratic Party.
