MSNBC contributor and former U.S. Senator Claire McCaskill (D-MO) weighed in on the current state of the presidential election on Monday’s “Deadline” program, likening former President Donald Trump to “fat Elvis” and suggesting that he’s growing increasingly anxious about Vice President Kamala Harris’s running mate selection.

McCaskill credited fellow pundit Charlie Sykes with coining the “fat Elvis” moniker, which she found particularly apt. “I spit coffee all over the place when I heard that,” she laughed. “It’s perfect. And you know what? Fat Elvis is getting a little worried, along with his running mate. But the truth is, Harris has a fantastic field of potential running mates to choose from.”

McCaskill went on to praise several of the candidates being considered, including Governor Tim Walz, who she described as “plain-spoken and relatable.” She also highlighted the strengths of Governor Josh Shapiro, who she believes has made significant contributions in Pennsylvania. Additionally, she praised Pete Buttigieg as one of the most talented communicators in politics today.

Despite the buzz surrounding the running mate selection, McCaskill remained confident that Harris’s choice would be well-received. “I think what’s really funny is how people are trying to stir up drama,” she said. “There’s no need to fight over this. Whoever Harris picks, it’s going to be fine. Let’s focus on the bigger picture.”
