Chicago had to stop its Cinco de Mayo parade and move it to a new location after gangs opened fire just over an hour into the event, according to reports. The Chicago Police Department responded to the parade near Damen Avenue and Cermak Road at 12pm. Trouble started soon after, with rival gangs flashing signs along the parade route. Shots were fired along the route, as per the Chicago Sun-Times. The police decided to cancel the parade at 1.30pm due to gang violence in the area. However, Ald. Byron Sigcho-Lopez said the parade was not canceled but relocated. The event continued smoothly, and 25 gang members were arrested, some of whom had firearms. Charges for those arrested are pending.
