A recent Pew Research poll shows that U.S. Catholics are now leaning towards former President Donald Trump over President Joe Biden. The survey looked at the preferences of U.S. voters based on their religious affiliation and found that Catholic voters in the U.S. are turning towards Trump, despite Biden being a self-proclaimed Catholic.

The poll indicates that Trump has a slight edge over Biden among all voters, leading by one percentage point. However, among Catholic voters specifically, Trump has majority support, with 55 percent backing Trump compared to 43 percent for Biden, a 12-point difference. In the white, non-Hispanic Catholic community, Trump has a 23-point lead, while among Hispanic Catholics, Biden holds a slight two-point edge.

Trump also leads Biden by 22 points among Protestant voters, with white evangelicals and white non-evangelicals showing strong support for Trump. On the other hand, black Protestants overwhelmingly favor Biden over Trump.

Biden’s support among the religiously unaffiliated remains strong, with 69 percent backing him compared to 28 percent for Trump.

This shift towards Trump among Catholic voters comes as Biden has faced criticism for his stance on abortion, with many social media users pointing out the irony of Biden quoting scripture on the National Day of Prayer while supporting policies making abortion more accessible. Biden has been vocal in his opposition to restrictions on abortion in states like Florida, drawing criticism from pro-life advocates.
