The National Association of Broadcasting has decided not to present actor Robert De Niro with an award at an upcoming event in Washington, D.C. The organization cited concerns that De Niro’s recent political activities would overshadow the philanthropic purpose of the award ceremony.

De Niro was set to receive the Leadership Foundation’s Service to America Award but will no longer attend the event. A spokesperson for the organization emphasized the bipartisan nature of the event and expressed a desire to maintain focus on honoring local broadcasters and partners.

At a press conference earlier this week, De Niro appeared alongside former police officers Harry Dunn and Michael Fanone, who defended the Capitol during the Jan. 6 riot. De Niro criticized former President Donald Trump, warning that his return to office would endanger American freedoms.

In response, Trump labeled De Niro as a “wacko” on social media. Commentators noted the significance of Biden’s campaign addressing the hush money trial, with some criticizing the involvement of De Niro as a “stupid mistake.”
