(Truth Voices) — A man accused of assaulting a U.S. Border Patrol agent last week along the U.S.-Mexico border as he was being apprehended by authorities is also wanted for murder in Mexico, Truth Voices has learned.

Sources with U.S. Customs and Border Patrol have told Truth Voices that Makcario Reyes, 32, is being sought on murder charges. No further information about those charges was provided, but sources confirmed Reyes is the illegal immigrant involved in an agent-involved shooting while South Dakota Gov. Kristi Noem was visiting the border last week.

Noem recently deployed her state’s National Guard to Texas to assist with the crisis at the border.

Authorities say they were trying to apprehend Reyes along the border when he resisted and fought the agent. Reyes was shot in the leg by the border patrol agent after authorities said he attempted to grab the agent’s gun.

The agent sustained a fractured rib in the altercation, officials said. Border Patrol sources confirmed that Reyes remains hospitalized following the incident and is in U.S. Customs and Border Patrol custody pending criminal charges.

According to sources, Reyes has been encountered by border agents at least seven times in Texas since 2011. He was most recently removed from the U.S. in 2023.

The FBI did not immediately return a message seeking comment from Truth Voices.

Last week’s shooting happened in the Del Rio Sector where the chief is reporting that in the previous 90 days, ten agents have been assaulted by combative subjects.
