A Boeing aircraft made an emergency landing in Indonesia on Wednesday after an engine fire, adding to the company’s safety concerns. The Garuda Indonesia-operated plane had just taken off from Makassar when the engine caught fire. There were 468 passengers on board, heading to Saudi Arabia. Video footage shows flames coming from the plane’s tail during takeoff.

Garuda President Irfan Setiaputra stated that the pilot decided to land immediately due to engine problems. Thankfully, no injuries were reported, and investigators are looking into the incident.

In a similar occurrence on May 10, a Boeing 737 had to return to Japan’s Fukuoka Airport due to a wing flap irregularity on a United Airlines flight to Guam. Fortunately, no injuries or fire were reported. Boeing is set to have a shareholder meeting where CEO David Calhoun’s position and compensation package will be discussed. Glass Lewis advises rejecting Calhoun’s nomination, and ISS recommends voting against his compensation package of $33 million in 2023.
