Authorities in Florida are currently investigating a boat in connection with the hit-and-run death of 15-year-old Ella Adler. The boater involved has been identified as Carlos Guillermo Alonso. The 78-year-old owns the boat that was seized by authorities earlier in the week.
Alonso was alone on the water last Saturday when he allegedly struck and killed Adler, who was wakeboarding with friends near Key Biscayne, Florida. Adler sustained critical injuries and later passed away. Alonso’s attorney, Lauren Field Krasnoff, expressed that her client, who goes by Bill, was devastated and unaware of the accident. She emphasized that he is an experienced boater and would have stopped immediately if he knew he had hit something or someone. Krasnoff also stated that Alonso does not drink and was sober at the time of the crash.
Adler, a talented ballet performer associated with the Miami City Ballet, was described by her family as a force of nature. Her grandfather is the U.S. ambassador to Belgium, and the family has close ties to President Joe Biden and First Lady Dr. Jill Biden. The Bidens visited the Adler family to offer their condolences during this difficult time.
Alonso is said to be cooperating with investigators, but it is unclear at this point whether he will face any charges in relation to the incident.
