A recent I&I/TIPP Poll survey released on Monday revealed a 28 percent decline in support for President Joe Biden among black voters. The survey also showed that Biden and Trump are neck and neck in head-to-head matchups, with Trump making significant gains in traditional Democratic constituencies.
In the 2020 election, 87 percent of black voters supported Biden, while only 12 percent supported Trump. However, current figures show that Trump’s support among black Americans has increased to 15 percent, while Biden’s support has dropped to 59 percent, reflecting a 28 percent loss since the election.
The survey also found a decrease in Biden’s support among Hispanic voters, with only 47 percent now supporting him compared to 65 percent in 2020. Trump has also gained ground among independent voters, leading Biden by five points in head-to-head matchups and eight points in matchups with third party candidates.
The survey, conducted from May 1-3 with 1,264 respondents, has a margin of error of +/-2.8 percent. A recent Wall Street Journal survey showed similar trends, with Trump gaining support among black Americans. This shift in support coincides with the super PAC MAGA Inc doubling down on ads targeting black voters in key swing states.
Senior advisor Lynne Patton noted a significant increase in support for Trump among black voters. She attributed this shift to the economic challenges faced by black and brown families under Biden’s administration, stating that these communities are gravitating towards Trump’s America-first policies.
