The president’s son, Hunter Biden, 54, has reportedly been joining meetings with his father, President Joe Biden, in the West Wing, despite his recent conviction of three gun-related felonies. According to the New York Post, Hunter has been sitting in on meetings with his father since President Biden’s return to the White House on Monday.

The newspaper cited four sources, including two with indirect knowledge of the situation, who confirmed Hunter’s unusual role in the meetings. The White House Press Secretary, Karine Jean-Pierre, said that Hunter’s presence was due to the holiday week, citing their close relationship. However, she would not confirm whether Hunter was meeting with senior West Wing advisers.

Hunter was convicted last month of three felonies for lying about his drug abuse on a federal firearms form in 2018. This irony has drawn attention, as the president and his Democratic allies have previously used the phrase “convicted felon” to attack their political opponents.

The situation has also drawn attention to Hunter’s past involvement in schemes to provide access to the White House for his foreign business partners during his father’s tenure as vice president during the Obama administration. With his recent conviction, Hunter now has direct access to the White House and is sitting in on meetings with his father, raising questions about the propriety of the situation.
