Ron Klain, President Joe Biden’s former chief of staff, took to social media on Sunday to express his thoughts on Biden’s surprise decision to suspend his 2024 presidential campaign. Klain, who served as chief of staff from 2021 to 2023, blamed donors and Democratic lawmakers for pushing Biden out of the race.

In a tweet, Klain wrote, “Now that the donors and electeds have pushed out the only candidate who has ever beaten Trump, it’s time to end the political fantasy games and unite behind the only veteran of a national campaign – our outstanding @vp, @KamalaHarris!! Let’s get real and win in November!”

Klain’s statement came shortly after Biden announced on Sunday that he would not seek reelection. In his statement, Biden expressed his gratitude for the opportunity to serve as President and acknowledged that he had intended to seek re-election. However, he believed it was in the best interest of his party and the country for him to step aside and focus on fulfilling his duties as President for the remainder of his term.

Later, Biden called on Democrats to unite behind Vice President Kamala Harris, offering his “full support and endorsement” for her to be the nominee of their party this year.
