Representative Pramila Jayapal (D-WA) stated Tuesday on CNN’s “The Source” that President Joe Biden should refrain from using an executive order on immigration because that is a tactic associated with the “xenophobic, racist” approach of former President Donald Trump.
Jayapal remarked, “We all desire an immigration system that is orderly, enables quick processing, and facilitates different legal pathways for entry. However, Republicans have persistently obstructed our efforts, pushing instead for enforcement-only measures like the one the president is currently implementing, which is reminiscent of actions taken by Donald Trump.”
Jayapal further commented, “I believe the president could have approached this issue differently, and I have communicated that to him directly. As Democrats, we must advocate for an inclusive vision of immigration and consistently highlight our differences with Donald Trump, who is xenophobic, racist, and has made atrocious remarks about immigrants. I am aware that President Biden does not share these views, but employing the same strategies as Donald Trump poses a significant challenge for Democrats in demonstrating these distinctions and maintaining support from our base.”
