President Joe Biden visited Georgia over the weekend to thank supporters for their votes in the 2020 election, acknowledging the state as “the reason I’m president right now.”
The Arthur M. Blank Family Foundation hosted a fundraiser for Biden on Saturday preceding his address at the Morehouse College commencement on Sunday. Biden made several stops across the state around the fundraiser.
“If you ever doubt the power of the vote, I say come to Georgia. You are the reason I won. Georgia is the reason I’m president right now,” Biden said, according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.
Biden was the first Democratic presidential candidate to secure a win in Georgia since 1992, capturing 306 total electoral votes, with 16 coming from Georgia.
“You all brung me to the dance,” Biden later remarked. “You really made a gigantic difference. It’s easy to forget, but I don’t forget.”
Biden delivered his address at Morehouse College, a historically black institution, without any campaign rhetoric. Instead, he highlighted his administration’s achievements, particularly emphasizing policies on race and support for HBCUs.
