Biden Invokes ‘Suckers and Losers’ Hoax Again During White House Independence Day Address

During a July 4th address at the White House, President Joe Biden recited the “suckers and losers” hoax attributed to former President Donald Trump. Biden stumbled through his statement, reiterating the claim that Trump disrespected fallen soldiers during a WWI cemetery visit.

In the midst of his remarks, Biden invoked a personal anecdote, recalling a World War I cemetery in France and referring to Trump’s supposed reluctance to pay his respects. He cautioned Americans to “remember who the hell we are,” emphasizing their identity as citizens of the United States.

Biden had first made this claim during the presidential debate, where he alleged that Trump refused to visit a specific World War I cemetery, declaring that the former president referred to soldiers there as “losers and suckers” in Trump’s presence. Trump was accompanied by a four-star general during the alleged incident.

The initial reports of Trump’s alleged comments originated from an article published in The Atlantic in September 2020, which claimed that Trump declined to visit the Aisne-Marne American Cemetery in France, telling staff members that it was “filled with losers.” Trump subsequently criticized the Atlantic, deeming the article a “disgraceful situation by a magazine” and denying that he would make derogatory comments about the military or fallen heroes.
