Some of President Joe Biden’s campaign advisers are reportedly considering aspects of a virtual convention to avoid potential protests from the Democrat party’s voters over the administration’s handling of the conflict between Israel and Hamas. Jonathan Martin, Politics Bureau Chief for Politico, revealed that Biden’s closest advisers are looking to combine elements of a traditional convention with the virtual format used in 2020 to prevent disruptions at the event. This move is seen as a response to concerns about protests and potential disruptions, particularly with a new mayor who openly supports protesters.
In an effort to attract viewership and minimize opportunities for protests, the advisers are advocating for a hybrid convention with a mix of in-person speeches and pre-recorded segments. This strategy aims to keep party business off the convention floor to avoid contentious debates and prevent demonstrations from taking place. The decision to explore a virtual convention comes after protesters disrupted a high-profile fundraiser attended by Biden, former Presidents Obama and Clinton.
