While Biden has issued joint statements with other nations regarding the hostages, there has been little mention of their names in public discourse. He has demanded a ceasefire from Israel and withheld arms shipments, but has not made the release of the hostages a nonnegotiable condition for any ceasefire agreement.
Instead of pressuring Israel to cease its military actions, Biden should be warning Hamas of consequences until the hostages are released. The media’s focus on criticizing Israel instead of advocating for the American hostages is concerning. The lack of attention given to these hostages is unacceptable and shameful.
In the past, U.S. hostages were taken seriously and given significant media coverage. The contrast with the current situation, where hostages are not receiving the same attention, is striking.
