A chaotic scene unfolded at the Cobra Bar in East Nashville last month when a fight broke out, leaving two members of the band No Cure severely injured. The band’s lead singer, Blaythe Steuer, and bassist Jake Murnane were attempting to intervene in the altercation when a man pulled out a knife and began slashing.

Steuer, who was stabbed in the leg, recounted the events of that night, describing how he was caught off guard by the sudden violence. “I never saw a knife, but he started slashing and now I have this on my leg,” he said, gesturing to his leg brace.

The injuries sustained by Steuer and Murnane were more severe than initially thought. Steuer revealed that he had come close to bleeding out, saying, “I look down and I’m looking at my pants leg and I’m spurting. He kind of branched my femoral artery.”

Both band members required medical attention and were treated at a local hospital. Murnane suffered a large cut across his chest, and both received staples and stitches.

According to police, the stabbing suspect, James Smith, allegedly fled the scene and discarded the knife before being arrested. In a surprising twist, Smith’s child reached out to the band via Instagram, apologizing for their father’s actions and describing him as a “bad guy.”

As the band works to recover from their ordeal, they are focusing on their music and upcoming shows. Steuer emphasized that the best way to support the band is to attend their performances and purchase merchandise. When asked about his experience, Steuer remained stoic, saying, “I do not get nervous. This is my life’s work now. I love it.”

Steuer also made it clear that he does not hold the Cobra Bar responsible for the incident, describing it as an isolated event.
