A historic jersey worn by baseball legend Babe Ruth during the 1932 World Series has sold for a staggering $24.12 million at auction, shattering records and cementing its place in baseball lore.

The iconic jersey, which Ruth wore when he allegedly called his shot and hit a home run to center field, was sold by Heritage Auctions in Dallas after a six-hour bidding war. The buyer, who wishes to remain anonymous, has secured a piece of baseball history that is widely regarded as one of the greatest moments in the sport.

The auction house noted that the “called shot” has been called the greatest moment in baseball history, although the details of the event are still shrouded in mystery. Despite the uncertainty, the jersey’s significance is undeniable, and its sale has set a new record for the most expensive piece of baseball memorabilia ever sold.

The previous record was held by a 1952 rookie card of Mickey Mantle, which sold for $12.6 million in 2022. The Ruth jersey, which was given to a friend in Florida around 1940, had been held in a private collection since its sale at auction in 2005 for $940,000.

Babe Ruth, widely regarded as one of the greatest baseball players of all time, was born George Herman Ruth Jr. on February 6, 1895, in Baltimore, Maryland. He developed a passion for baseball at a young age and went on to dominate the sport, setting numerous records and redefining the game with his power and high-scoring style.
