Rep. Ayanna Pressley (D-MA) lashed out at “special interests” like the American Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC) as a “threat to democracy” after her colleague, Rep. Jamaal Bowman (D-NY), lost his primary election to George Latimer on Tuesday.
Pressley made the comments on MSNBC’s The ReidOut while discussing the record-breaking $20 million spent on the election, much of it from AIPAC. “We cannot allow special interests, dark money, super PACs to buy congressional seats,” she emphasized.
The primary election was the most expensive in the nation’s history, with AIPAC alone donating over $14 million to Latimer’s campaign. Bowman, a member of the progressive “Squad,” had faced backlash from AIPAC and other pro-Israel groups for his criticism of Israel.
