Aurora, CO Police Chief Todd Chamberlain expressed concerns about a new group of migrants that have arrived in the city, stating that they have caused “major concerns” and that the federal government is not providing sufficient assistance. In an interview with NBC News, Chamberlain said that while crime is down in the city, the presence of these new migrants has created a challenging situation.
Chamberlain clarified that he does not want to be responsible for deporting migrants, but rather wants the federal government to provide more support in addressing the issue. He stated that there is “very little federal assistance” available, and that the situation is “really a disaster.”
NBC News Senior Capitol Hill Correspondent Garrett Haake reported on the interview, stating that Chamberlain’s comments contradict President Trump’s claims that the city is being overrun by migrants. Haake played a clip of Chamberlain’s response to a question about whether he recognizes the city of Aurora, to which Chamberlain replied that while the city is not being overrun, the new migrant group has caused significant concerns.
Haake also highlighted Chamberlain’s call for federal assistance, stating that the police chief wants help dealing with migrants, but not responsibility for deporting them. Chamberlain’s comments on the lack of federal support and the disastrous situation it has created were also emphasized by Haake.
