According to reports from ABC 7 and the Chicago Sun-Times, Mayor Brandon Johnson’s Chicago experienced at least 23 shootings over the weekend, resulting in two fatalities. One of the fatal shootings took place on West Warren Boulevard, where a 49-year-old man was killed after being shot in the head by an assailant who exited a white sedan. Another shooting occurred on West Flournoy Street, where a man was found dead with a gunshot wound to the head.

The Chicago Sun-Times keeps a record showing that 148 people were killed in the city from January 1, 2024, to May 4, 2024. Additionally, an officer from the Chicago Police Department, Luis M. Huesca, was shot and killed while driving home after his shift on April 21, 2024. The suspect in Huesca’s shooting was later apprehended after being found hiding under a sink in an apartment.
